Salwa’s feature screenplay, The Strangest Part of the Forest, had a reading on January 20th in Chicago. The script is Salwa’s thesis for her MFA in Writing for the Screen and Stage at Northwestern University.

In this animated feature for children, twins Juniper and Clementine are drawn into a magical forest that only gets stranger the deeper they go in. They travel alongside Alder, a tree-boy, and Beet, a giant beetle, to rescue their sister Rosemary and return home braver and better equipped to handle the huge, unnameable feelings we all experience.

The recording of the livestream is available here.

Salwa’s play U-Haul Mesbians had a sold-out reading as part of the Syrup & Candy Summer Play Reading Series at The Tank in New York City on August 15th 2022, with Mehrnaz Tiv directing and Fouad Dakwar composing music.

Salwa wrote and performed a devised short play Don’t Cry! Be Happy!, a birthday party and rumination on happiness, at Northwestern University. Everyone wrote her very nice birthday cards.

Salwa is currently an MFA candidate in Writing for the Screen and Stage at Northwestern University. She will graduate in June.
